Mary Campbell Broughton, who joined the firm as a partner in 1992, was admitted to the bars of Louisiana and Alabama in 1982. Since then, she has practiced in federal and state trial and appellate courts.

She has extensive litigation experience in the areas of maritime casualty, personal injury, cargo, pollution, product liability, insurance coverage, and commercial disputes for vessel owners, towers, P&I Clubs and underwriters, at the trial and appellate levels. She has conducted oil spill contingency planning, counseling and evaluation and has lectured on various aspects of OPA '90 and the ISM Code. She has coordinated oil spill responses and investigations, provided response planning and counseling services, and is a member of the firm's casualty response team.

In the commercial maritime field, she has successfully represented banks in cases in which the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has made important clarifications and definitions of U.S. maritime lien law. She has successfully represented domestic and foreign companies in complex disputes over personal jurisdiction and forum non conveniens, often involving corporate veil piercing.

She has defended numerous personal injury and death cases involving both judge and jury trials. The cases have arisen from casualties on the high seas, inland waters and docks and have involved many types of injuries, including long term exposure to toxic substances.

In non-maritime insurance cases, she has defended claims arising from a variety of types of casualties. She has also represented insurers in coverage disputes based on a number of different types of policies, including general liability, property and inland marine coverages.
